As part of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp, commemorated on January 27, 2025, the European Observatory on Memories (EUROM) of the Solidaritat UB Foundation is organizing an event dedicated to exploring the role of comics as a tool to preserve and transmit the memory of the Holocaust. The event will take place on January 22, 2025, from 6:30 PM to 8:45 PM, in the Aula Capella of the University of Barcelona, with free admission upon registration.

6:45 PM – 8:00 PM | Round Table: “The Holocaust through Comics”
A dialogue with renowned comic and graphic arts authors who have dedicated their works to reflecting on historical memory:
- Anna Lina Mattar, author of L’Anell de la serp (Andana, 2024), will share her perspective on family and cultural memory.
- Ricard Efa, Cesc F. Dalmases, and Roger Surroca, creators of Adeu, Birkenau (Norma Editorial, 2024), will offer a moving vision of the Holocaust through an emotional and reflective visual style.
- Cristina Durán, illustrator of María la Jabalina (Astiberri, 2023), will highlight her work in reclaiming the memory of the Roma community.
8:00 PM – 8:45 PM | Piano Performance
Pianist and improviser Toni Costa will close the event with a musical selection connecting memory and cultural heritage. The repertoire will include pieces such as Wiegala by Ilse Weber, Eli, Eli, and traditional melodies like Ederlezi and Durme Durme.
