Playlists | Ways to Communicate Dissonant Heritage

How can societies confront the architectural and artistic legacies of undemocratic regimes? This question took center stage at the international conference Ways to Communicate Dissonant Heritage: Architecture, Art, Exhibitions, now available to watch in full through our video playlists on Youtube. Held as part of the EU project Developing an Inclusive Process for Communicating Dissonant Heritage, the event gathered historians, architects, artists, and curators from across Europe to explore how contested sites—such as former prisons, military facilities, and monuments—can be reimagined through architecture, art, and exhibitions. From the transformation of Bulgaria’s Buzludzha Monument and the reinterpretation of Portugal’s Peniche fortress to artistic interventions in Croatia and Greece, the conference highlighted bold, inclusive strategies to engage with difficult pasts. Watch the full set of panels, keynotes, and case studies to discover how memory work is being reshaped across the continent.
