The conference Repairing the Past 2024 explored the intersection of colonialism and environmental issues, with a particular focus on the role of museums and scientific institutions in the exploitation of nature and wildlife. Discussions delved into both the historical and ongoing impacts of this exploitation and examined how colonial legacies continue to shape contemporary challenges, including the interpretation of collections and the development of reparation policies. As part of the program, we screened the documentary Rosinha e Outros Bichos do Mato (Rosinha and Other Wild Animals), followed by a conversation with its director, Marta Pessoa. The film offers a critical perspective on Portugal’s 1934 colonial exhibition and its enduring legacy.
