Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU)

The Research Center of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU) is the leading Slovenian research centre in the fields of humanities and a cutting-edge academic institution in central, eastern, and southeast Europe. It has a multidisciplinary character; in addition to the humanities, its spheres of research also cover the natural and social sciences. ZRC SAZU has its own publishing house, bookstore, and audio-visual laboratory; it houses the Geographical Museum, and boasts numerous collections. Among its rich publishing activity, five research journals listed in the Thomson Reuters indices are especially noteworthy.

Part of research activities are in the field of Memory Studies. ZRC SAZU carries out and promotes research on memory, linguistics and politics of representation and popular culture in Slovenia and South-East Europe. It practices a distinctly interdisciplinary approach which is both possible and indeed inevitable because of different professional backgrounds of its researchers: history, anthropology, linguistics, ethno-musicology, ethnology, literary history, culture studies etc.

In 2011 a book series, Cultural Memory [Kulturni spomin] was launched.  It brings original scientific literature dealing with this vibrant field. What is more, a new series of public lectures/discussions, Interlogi, has been launched in Autumn 2011 to bring the varied topics that intrigue ICMS researchers closer to the academic community and the interested public.
