Founded in 2008, the Maison de l’Histoire at the University of Geneva is an interdisciplinary centre dedicated to promoting and advancing the historical sciences. Created in response to the growing public interest in history, it aims to make historical research more visible, accessible, and relevant to today’s society.

Bringing together over 300 scholars and educators from across the university, the Maison de l’Histoire unites expertise from a wide range of fields—including general history, the history of medicine, religions, Christianity, psychology, education, science, economics, art, and law.

The Maison fosters intellectual collaboration across disciplines, supports academic research, and helps fund the publication of scholarly work. It also plays a key role in public engagement, organising lectures, conferences, debates, and the annual Festival Histoire et Cité, which brings history to life for a broad audience.

Committed to strengthening the link between academia and society, the Maison de l’Histoire works closely with museums, heritage organisations, and cultural institutions to promote public understanding of history and to support remembrance initiatives.
