The University of Barcelona will host the international conference “Youth and Memory Engagement” on April 9–10, 2025, bringing together 20 youth delegations from 19 countries across Europe and beyond to engage in the vital work of democratic memory. This gathering will serve as a dynamic platform for young people to share experiences, exchange best practices, and develop collaborative strategies to strengthen transnational remembrance initiatives.
Through panel discussions, interactive workshops, and hands-on activities, participants will examine the crucial role of youth in shaping memory policies and fostering a shared culture of remembrance across Europe. The event aims to facilitate meaningful dialogue and collective action, empowering young people to actively preserve and interpret history.
Delegations from countries such as Portugal, Ireland, Ukraine, Poland, Bosnia, and many others will showcase innovative projects and initiatives, presenting a diverse range of approaches to memory engagement. These presentations will highlight how young people contribute to preserving democratic values and promoting historical awareness.
Co-organized by the European Observatory on Memories of the University of Barcelona’s Solidarity Foundation and the Youth Institute of the Spanish Government within the framework of the commemorative programme “Spain in Freedom.50 years” with the collaboration of Euroclio, the Navarre Institute of Memory, and the City Council of Barcelona.
