The third edition of the Rap for Memories project focuses on the memories of the struggles of the LGBTIQ+ movements in Barcelona. From November 2022, 40 students from the High School La Industrial explored this subject by drawing upon memory studies, visual arts, and rap music. The workshops were developed by the EUROM in collaboration with Versembrant Popular School as part of the Gender Studies course with the aim of promoting awareness and understanding of the experiences and struggles of the LGBTIQ+ communities.
The three music pieces have already been recorded, and the students are now working on the graffiti, scheduled to be painted on May 24. To wrap up the workshops, on May 31 the students will participate in a conversation with the producers of the show “Jo, Travesti” (Me, Transvestite), that will be premiered at La Model in July 2023, in the framework of the Festival Grec. Co-produced by the EUROM, the show has been described as an “alter fiction” about cross-dressing that vindicates transvestite art and culture and the figure of drag queens and star impersonators with a long tradition in Spain throughout the 20th century and up to the present day.
