Traumatic Memories and Uncomfortable Heritages

International Seminar

Remembering and Forgetting, Exposing and Concealing

This seminar hosted by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) will delve into the complex intersections of memory, trauma, and heritage. Bringing together scholars, historians, and cultural experts, the programme will discuss the delicate processes of remembering and forgetting, the tensions between exposing and concealing histories, and how societies manage difficult pasts.

The main focus will be on how communities and institutions navigate the legacies of traumatic events, exploring both the urge to memorialize and the impulse to forget. The event will feature a series of presentations and discussions led by distinguished speakers from various cultural, historical, and academic backgrounds, each bringing unique perspectives on these issues.
