The Central Women’s Prison of Segovia is the centerpiece of the 3rd Public History Conference on Women’s Prisons during the Franco Regime, organized by the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation. This year, the event is being held with the collaboration with the Forum for the Memory of Segovia, the University of Valladolid, the Segovia City Council, and the European Observatory on Memories (EUROM).
Open to the public, the sessions will take place on October 16, 17, and 24 at La Cárcel de Segovia – Centro de Creación. Historians, researchers, and relatives of victims will shed light on the repression of women during the Franco dictatorship, focusing on the experiences of those imprisoned in Segovia.
Highlights include talks by Laura Bolaños Giner and Fernando Fernández, a conversation between Miguel Martínez del Arco and José Gómez Blázquez, and screenings of the documentaries Una dedicatoria a lo bestia and Flores bajo el hielo. The programme also features a guided visit to the Segovia Democratic Memorial.
This initiative continues the series launched by the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation on women’s prisons under Francoism, following previous editions on Madrid’s Ventas and Barcelona’s Modelo. Together, these events contribute to preserving historical memory and confronting the legacies of fascist repression.
