From July 15 to 29, 2025, forty young people will take part in a formative journey across the landscapes of memory, retracing the paths of Republican and civil exile through Navarre, Catalonia, and the southeast of France. This will be the fifth edition of Ruta al Exilio, an educational expedition promoted by the Spanish Youth Institute (INJUVE), the European Observatory on Memories (EUROM), and the Navarre Institute of Memory.
Who Can Apply
The call is open to young people residing in Spain who will be 16 or 17 years old during the route, specifically those born between July 31, 2007 and July 15, 2009 (inclusive). Applicants must hold Spanish nationality and possess a valid passport and all necessary documentation to cross the French border.
Participation is completely free of charge for those selected, and full availability is required for the entire duration of the expedition.
Application Period
Applications are open from April 4 to May 11, 2025, until 23:59 CET. The list of selected participants will be announced in the second half of May.

This Year’s Theme: A Land to Sing About
In 2025, Ruta al Exilio invites participants to explore how music, poetry, and oral testimonies shape our collective memory and identity. The expedition will be an opportunity to “listen to the earth” and recognize the sounds of memory.
The songs of the Second Republic and the Spanish Civil War continue to echo in folk traditions. The poetry of the Sinsombrero generation inspired those who saw in their verses a call to hope, resistance, and commitment. And the voices silenced by decades of repression have become a collective outcry for historical memory.
This journey seeks to affirm that memory is also voice, music, word, and poem.
