A group of sixteen teenagers participate in the first summer work camp focusing on the history of the construction of the L-401 road in the Catalan Pyrinees, built using forced labor from 1941 to 1954. The initiative, supported by local and regional institutions, particularly seeks to engage young people offering them an educational experience that promotes values such as respect, peace, and coexistence. It aims to raise awareness of the role of labor battalions and penal colonies, emphasising the importance of preserving historical memory and understanding the impact of forced labor during the Franco regime. Participants will clean, condition, and mark historical sites related to the road’s construction during workshops carried out by archeologists, historians and tourist guides.
The work camp marks the second phase of a research project driven by the EUROM, the Centre of Lacetans Studies (CEL) and Solsonès County Council on the use of forced labor in constructing the L-401 road between Coll de Jou and Pont d’Espia from 1941 to 1954.
