Women of ’36

Theatre, Memory and Dialogue for International Women's Day
Dones del 36 - Nan Valentí + David Pintó

As part of the activities marking International Women’s Day, the European Observatory on Memories (EUROM) and La Model Espai Memorial present a performance of Dones del 36 (Women of ’36), the latest stage production by David Pintó and Joan Valentí.  With humour, emotion and commitment, the performance pays tribute to the women who fought for freedom, equality and justice during the Second Spanish Republic and the Spanish Civil War. The play restores the power of their voices, reflecting  on the importance of historical memory in understanding the present.

Through monologues, songs, humour and audiovisual materials, Dones del 36 offers an accessible and intimate stage narrative that centres on individual stories in order to raise collective questions about the past, silence, resistance and the transmission of memory.

The performance will be followed by an open discussion with the creators, Nan Valentí (actor) and David Pintó (director), moderated by actress and playwright Mireia Clemente, from La Voz Ahogada Stage Project. The conversation will focus not only on the play itself, but also on the role of the performing arts in the transmission of historical memory and on the dialogue between theatrical and exhibition formats.

The event is part of the public programme of the exhibition The Oasis and aims to explore how theatre and immersive experiences can complement one another in fostering a closer, more emotional and more critical relationship with memory, inviting audiences not only to listen to the past, but to experience it and question it from the present.

Free activity with prior registration via this link.

The event is supported by the Barcelona City Council and by the CERV programme of the European Commission, and reflects EUROM’s ongoing commitment to exploring new ways of transmitting memory through the arts and culture.
