About the speaker
This online course certified by the University of Barcelona deals with the main issues related to historical memory and education from a transnational perspective. It aims to provide tools for school teachers to update contents and topics related to the transmission of history and memory in the European context, bringing together the voices of experts from different fields of study and geography. The course also facilitates networking between teachers and experts across Europe, promoting the interest in current memorial debates and encouraging potential lines of work in research and teaching in the field of historical memory.
Contents
Taking as a starting point the traumatic historical events that took place throughout the 20th century, the course “Current perspectives on memory” will address the main topics present in the European memorial debate, such as the World wars and the Spanish Civil War, the Holocaust, the Cold War, the Balkan Wars. Bringing together the voices of experts from different fields of study and geography, the cycle will facilitate reflection on issues related to the transmission of new historical and memorial narratives, and on how these models of transmission are being projected at the political, educational, or patrimonial level.
Methodology
The three sessions have been organized online throughout the year and will last 1,5 hours. In the first part of the session, the participants will attend a live keynote speech while in the second part they will interact with the speakers and establish an open dialogue on the most relevant points.
Prior to each online session, attendees will be provided with materials on the topics to be covered, including compulsory reading that will be recommended by each speaker.
