The Barcelona bookstore La Memoria will host the presentation of the book What Do We Do with the Colonial Past? Justice, Reparation and Memory (Edicions Bellaterra, 2025). The event will feature the participation of the editors Celeste Muñoz Martínez and Oriol López Badell.
The volume offers a critical examination of how inequality, ongoing dispossession and discrimination remain deeply intertwined with imperial histories. Through case studies spanning different national and thematic contexts, the book highlights not only a past that has yet to be fully confronted, but also the ways in which colonial logics continue to shape contemporary forms of injustice.
Bringing together an international group of scholars and researchers, the publication includes contributions from Linda Mann (Redress Network; Columbia University / Howard University), Cira Pallí-Asperó (RedressHub, Justice Visions, Ghent University Human Rights Centre), Nina Boddin (Ghent University), Miguel Cardina (Centre for Social Studies, University of Coimbra), Franklin Obeng-Odoom (University of Helsinki), Alberto López Bargados (University of Barcelona), Alba Valenciano Mañé (UAB), Badiha Nahhass (Mohammed V University of Rabat), Marc Riu Giralt (University of Turin), and Tania Safura Adam, founder of Radio Africa Magazine.
The book contributes to ongoing debates on colonial memory, reparative justice and historical accountability, offering critical perspectives on how societies can confront and address the enduring legacies of empire.
