- The University of Barcelona and the City Council of Barcelona host an experts’ debate on the integrated approaches to Europe’s dissonant heritage, organized in the framework of the Partnership on Culture and Cultural Heritage of the Urban Agenda for the EU;
- The Partnership’s eleven so-called Actions work to develop policy recommendations for better funding, better regulation, and better knowledge of the European Union, supporting cities in the further development of their cultural heritage;
- The Action on dissonant heritage is led by the German Federal Ministry of the Interior, for Building and Community (BMI) and the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR);
- The Barcelona meeting, jointly organized with the EUROM, aims to set the basis for a toolkit for Integrated Approaches to Dissonant Heritage, which will be presented on during an online networking event.

The opening session will take place at the auditorium of the former prison La Model on October 20 from 3 pm to 6 pm and will be live broadcasted. The 40 participants attending the meeting will be welcomed by representatives of the Municipality of Barcelona, the European Union, and the BMI/ BBSR. The keynote speech will be delivered by Dr. Carola Hein, Professor of History of Architecture and Urban Planning, TU Delft. The session will end with a panel discussion with representatives of the European Union and experts to discuss some key questions: What does dissonant heritage mean for Europe, its member states, and its municipalities, and where is a need for further action? Do integrated and participatory approaches take the dissonant heritage further, and how should they be designed?
On October 21, the participants will gather at the Faculty of Information and Audiovisual Media of the University of Barcelona for an internal workshop to debate and develop integrated approaches to handle, employ and manage Dissonant Heritage sites in Europe. The workshop’s results will create the main base for a toolkit for different stakeholders dealing with the heritage, and it will also be the starting point to develop further recommendations for the EU, member states, and municipalities.
The event is organized jointly with the European Observatory on Memories of the University of Barcelona’s Solidarity Foundation (EUROM), supported by the programme Europe for Citizens of the European Union, and in collaboration with the City Council of Barcelona. It takes place in the framework of the Partnership on Culture and Cultural Heritage in the Urban Agenda for the EU: The Partnership’s eleven so-called Actions will develop policy recommendations for better funding, better regulation, and better knowledge for the EU and will support cities in the further development of their cultural heritage. One of these Actions focuses on Europe’s Dissonant Heritage.
