The European Observatory on Memories and the Maison Jean Monnet of the European Parliament commemorate the legacy of Robert Schuman with the publication of an online story and a bilingual book in the year of the 70th aniversary of the Schuman Declaration. The publication highlights a contribution by the professor Sylvain Schirmann, a lecturer in contemporary history of the Jean Monnet Chair at the University of Strasbourg, who analyses the historical context of the declaration, as well as its consequences for the construction of Europe, until nowadays.
Marti Grau, Head of the Jean Monnet House, and Philippe Le Guen, responsible for the outreach program at the institution, add the backstage story of the Declaration, which was fulfilled by Jean Monnet and his team in collaboration with Robert Schuman. The texts are complemented with pictures and audiovisual material of the Multimedia Centre of European Parliament, and with an interactive timeline.
A publication by the EUROM – University of Barcelona’s Solidarity Foundation, in collaboration with the Jean Monnet House – European Parliament. Co-funded by the Europe for Citizens programme of the European Commission. 2020, free issue, 500 hard copies. Free PDF available online.
