Deconstructing Francoism is a travelling exhibition that examines the legacy of Francoist repression through the critical recontextualisation of removed fascist symbols in the public space. By presenting these monuments and emblems within a new interpretative framework, the exhibition challenges their original commemorative function and exposes them as remnants of an authoritarian past that are fundamentally incompatible with the principles of a democratic society.
The exhibition is promoted by the European Observatory on Memories (EUROM) and the Public Art and Memory project at the University of Barcelona. It was co-financed by the Europe for Citizens programme of the European Union and supported by the Barcelona City Council.
