Homage to Antonio Ortíz Ramírez

Log Walls Project

In November and December 2025, the artist Roc Blackbloc created a new mural as part of the Murs de Bitàcola (Log Walls) project, in collaboration with IES Quatre Cantons and EUROM, and with the support of the Barcelona City Council. This year, the project focused on the figure of Antonio Ortíz Ramírez —also known as General sin Dios ni amo— a Poble Nou resident and CNT activist.

Through his biography, fourth-year ESO students explored, over six weeks, key moments in Spain’s recent history, including the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera, the Second Republic, the Ortíz Column or South-Ebro Column, the events of 1937, exile and concentration camps, the Second World War, and even a failed assassination attempt against Franco.

During the first week of the project, the mural began to take shape at the corner of Carrer Taulat and Passatge de la Llacuna, and students had the opportunity to visit it. A talk and presentation of the project were also held at the school.

The mural was completed at the end of November, but only two days later it was vandalized.

The artwork depicts Ortíz alongside the anarchist slogan “Sin Dios ni amo” (“Without God or Master”) and a map of the territories where he moved during the Spanish Civil War.

The aim of Murs de Bitàcola is to highlight episodes of community memory in public space, combining murals with educational content accessible through the web and social media. Students at IES Quatre Cantons actively participated by contributing the results of their research, becoming both recipients and transmitters of historical memory.

The closing and inauguration of the mural took place on 16 December 2025, with the participation of students, teachers, and memory-focused organizations.
