A Journey Through the Voices of Exiles
“Exilio” is a compelling spectacle by the European Observatory on Memories (EUROM) and Voodoo Productions, documenting the experiences of exiled individuals through a captivating fusion of sounds, words, and images.
Crafted and performed by acclaimed actor Àlex Brendemühl and renowned solo guitarist Nora Buschmann, under the direction of Lalo Garcia and production by Txell Sabartés, the show stands as a powerful testament to the resilience, creativity, and enduring spirit of those forcibly displaced from their homelands.
Since its launch in 2020, this poignant co-production has reached over 2,000 audience members in Spain, France, and Germany. Now back on tour, Exilio continues to inspire and provoke reflection.
A Tribute to the Stories of Exile
Drawing from key historical periods, such as the Spanish Civil War and World War II, and addressing contemporary migrations, Exilio interweaves evocative audiovisual material with the voices of historical and literary figures. Through the works of Albéniz, Blas de Otero, Lorca, Brecht, Vigilietti, and many others, the show explores the shared human cost of displacement while honoring the resilience of those who have been uprooted from their homes across history—and into the present day.
In a world where the echoes of past conflicts still reverberate, Exilio illuminates the ongoing quest for freedom, dignity, and belonging.
A Call for Remembrance
Since the Balkan Wars in the 1990s, Europe has largely avoided the direct violence of war. Yet, while this “island” of relative peace endures, other parts of the world experience bombings, hunger, and marginalization—pushing countless individuals to seek refuge, crossing borders or even the Mediterranean in search of a decent life. Exilio offers a platform to confront these realities and to extend empathy to those knocking on our doors for help.
