La Model former prison in Barcelona will host a function of the theater play “Una de Cal” on July 10, 2024, at 6,30 pm. Premiered in 2022, the piece by Gata por Liebre Company combines different forms of expression to address Spain’s recent history and its consequences in a unique way, through real testimonies. Designed as a scenic device, the play blends circus, theater, and dance to create a stage experience that stirs emotions and plants the seed of reflection in the spectators.
This single performance at La Model is promoted by the European Observatory on Memories (EUROM) with the support of the City Council of Barcelona. Entrance is free, but previous registration is recomended.
One of lime, to wait for the sand, one of lime to cover, clean and burn what each one needs, even if you don’t believe it.
The piece works as a scenic device guided by audio testimonies that reflect on the recent history of Spain in the period from the Civil War to the end of the dictatorship. The audios collected form the backbone of a scenic proposal in which the work of the creators and performers becomes that of accompanying multiple subjectivities that occur in the same temporal space and that have been buried under a self-imposed collective discourse.
“Una de Cal” translates to “One of Lime,” suggesting the multiple uses of lime—waiting for the sand, covering, cleaning, and burning—metaphorically pointing to the layers of history, memory, and erasure that the play explores.
