A conversation based on the meaning and interpretation of Picasso’s homonymous work, with the aim of highlighting concepts such as censorship, cultural resistance, political persecution and the fight for freedom of expression during Francoism. The event is a proposal of the EUROM within the exhibition “Picasso. Territory and Catalan folk arts and traditions”, that is being held at the Museum of Solsona (Spain), and will take place on June 1, 2024, at 6 pm.
Moderated by the historian Jordi Guixé, director of the European Observatory of Memories (EUROM), the panel will count with interventions by Maria Guinovart (Espai Guinovart), Elena Llorens (Picasso Museum) and Iratxe Momoitio (Peace Museum of Gernika).
About the panelists
Maria Guinovart is the president and director of Espai Guinovart Foundation, from where she spreads and updates the legacy of her father, the painter Josep Guinovart.
Elena Llorens is a curator at the Picasso Museum in Barcelona. With a degree in art history and English philology, she joined the Modern and Contemporary Art Area of the National Museum of Art of Catalonia (MNAC) in 2005 as conservation assistant. Previously, she had worked in the publishing sector, where he specialized in editing and translating artistic works.
Iratxe Momoitio is the director of the Gernika Peace Museum and is currently co-general coordinator of the International Network of Museums for Peace. She coordinates the museum’s series of publications and has organised several national and international museum conventions and curated numerous temporary exhibitions, including “Picasso Gernika”.
