Pioneer Women of the European Union

Temporary Exhibition | Girona

The exhibition “Pioneer Women of the European Union” will be on display at the Faculty of Law of the University of Girona from September 29 to October 16, 2023. The opening will take place on Friday 29 September at 12:00 with the participation of the dean Albert Ruda, the vice-chancellor Sílvia Llach, the vice-mayor Gemma Geis, and the MEP and member of the Commission for Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Diana Riba.

Developed by the Office of the European Parliament in Barcelona and the EUROM, the exhibition highlights the biographies of Anna Lindh, Marga Klompé, Melina Mercouri, Nicole Fontaine, Nilde Iotti, Simone Veil and Ursula Hirschmann, the seven women listed as “Pioneers of the EU”, as well as of those who give their names to European Parliament buildings: Clara Campoamor Rodríguez, Sophie Schroll and Louise Weiss. The texts are accompanied by portraits by the French artist Pierre Marquès.

The first exhibition “Pioneer Women of the European Union” took place in May in the Historical Building of the University of Barcelona on the occasion of the commemorative events of Europe Day. During the second semester f 2023 it will be travelling to the universities of Girona, Lleida and Tarragona thanks to the collaboration of the EU information points in the Europe Direct territory.
