Tribute Day to the deported and deceased Spaniards in Mauthausen and other camps and to all the victims of Nazism in Spain

05 May
All day

In 2019, the Council of Ministers of Spain established May 5 as a Day of Tribute to the deported and deceased Spaniards in Mauthausen and other camps and to all the victims of Nazism. The chosen date coincides with the commemoration of the liberation in 1945 of the Mauthausen camp in Austria.

In this field were close to 7,500 Spaniards, mostly exiled Republicans who left our country at the end of the Civil War. Deprived of their nationality by decision of the Francoist government, they suffered innumerable atrocities and a total of 5,117 died there and in other Nazi concentration camps.
